Forehill is in the conservation area of Ely city centre, within sight of the Cathedral and between the Market Square and the River Great Ouse.

There is a good choice of Restaurants and Shops including some fine Antique retailers in Ely.

The magnificent Cathedral is just 2 minutes walk away, as is the river with its walks and boat trips. There is a good choice of eating and drinking places as well as Art Galleries, The Ely Museum, Oliver Crowell's House & other attractions.

The train station is a 10 minute walk and the bus station is just 4. Taxis are also available.

There is a Thursday general market and a Saturday crafts market, also a regular farmers market.

Ely was home to Oliver Cromwell and refuge to Hereward the Wake. It used to be the Isle of Ely, set in the fen waterlands which were drained in the 17th century. There are fens, pumping stations and wildlife refuges nearby.

The Cathedral is one of the most original and beautiful anywhere, with its famous Octagon Tower. As well as the usual religious services it is used for concerts. It is surrounded by a range of medieval buildings.
